In the Principle's Office

Here’s a phrase that scares everyone…
In the principal’s office, where everyone assumes they will either go to complain, or to be reprimanded!
But so many beautiful things happen in this office!
We’re going to launch this new blog column with one of them!
In the office we have the opportunity to discuss above all, what we are worried about, what we are thinking about, what we are looking for a solution for!
So come with us to discover the first of these beautiful discussions, which took place with our school’s pediatrician, Mrs. Vasiliki Sklavenitou, who was kind enough to dedicate some of her precious time to answer questions that concern all parents!
We hope you find this interview useful and meaningful!
Lina Exarchou
Operations Manager
LE: Good morning, Mrs. Sklavenitou. It is a great pleasure to have your valuable advice and insights in our efforts as a school to raise children, as their extended family, who are first and foremost happy and healthy. Let’s begin our conversation.
VS: Good morning Mrs. Exarchou, I’m very pleased to have the opportunity to connect with the parents of your young students.
LE: We are at the end of autumn, a difficult autumn in terms of viruses and infections. Tell us what you would advise parents of preschoolers to do to “shield” them as much as possible.
VS: The fall has been difficult and it looks like the winter will be difficult as well. So we are using our common sense and optimism and shielding children against winter viruses and infections.
LE: During the winter months, what would you say is the best practice in terms of children’s daily routine in terms of feeding and activities outdoors, in the schoolyard or playground?
VS: In terms of their nutrition, FRUITS and VEGETABLES strengthn the body’s defenses and should be taken daily with a minimum of 3 servings. Here I would like to note the importance of PROPER CLOTHING, when children are overdressed they sweat and then it is easier for them to get sick. Playing outdoors in the schoolyard or playground is essential, all year round (unless it rains) as it promotes their mental and physical health and boosts their immune system.
Also, I would add, AVOID exposure to screen light especially in the evening ,as they cause tension and irritation in children, make the sleep process difficult and predispose them to nightmares and restless sleep. ADEQUATE SLEEP in a quiet environment, with the thermostat lowered at night to 19 degrees C, because the heat causes dry air and consequently dryness of the nasal mucosa and coughing.
LE: Could you briefly give us ways of dealing with and supporting children in the event that they are sick with Covid 19, generalized virus or influenza?
VS: The treatment for both seasonal viruses, influenza A & B and coronavirus disease is the same:
HYDRATION
LIGHT NURISHMENT
RESTING: Sleep, relaxed activity at home, no screens.
LIGHT CLOTHING
RINOPLYSES: remove viruses, germs, allergens, environmental irritants
LE: In closing, Mrs. Sklavenitou, and before we thank you very much for your time, we would like you to tell us where and what hours you keep your clinic open so that any parents who need to contact you directly can do so.
VS: Thank you too! You can find me every day by appointment at 6944.434.734 in the morning and afternoon hours, my office is located at 9 Hephaestou Street on the 1st floor.
